Now, you want to have rule 2 and 3 correlate somehow and make it a little bit consistent, I personally prefer 3 level high rooms with a distance of 2 blocks, something like having the distance a third to two thirds of the room height sounds about right You don't want the dwarves below listening to the foot-steps of the ones above. Rule 3: Have at least one block distance between all layers. This is maybe okay for the passes between the halls (the rooms, but let's call them halls to emphasize) but definitely not for the halls themselves! Remember, you are building a dwarf fortress, something like this! Now, a block is about 3 meters high according to Toady. Rule 2: Make rooms multiple z-levels high.
